Innovation and Change Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Innovation and Change - Essay Example Often, it is realized that most organizations fail to drive their innovation strategies in a proper manner. Recognizing the imperative need for innovation in the organization, most executives miscalculate in terms of their desire to innovate and the ability of the organization to innovate. In the face of such a dilemma, it only leads to a situation where the organization ultimately fails to achieve anything. It is therefore quite important that the desire of the organization to innovate is effectively synchronized with the capability of innovation. In such a case, it becomes easier to manage the innovation process in the organization. Several instances normally abound where disconnects are realized in terms of the missions and goals of innovation. Most often these challenges arise in the face of growing competition which forces organizations to adopt innovation as an option for improved productivity or performance. In the computer industry across the world, such leading innovation ex perts like Apple might always make other smaller market players to imagine that they could also innovate to that capacity. In the end, the smaller organizations end up out of the market owing to failed innovative strategies. This arises because innovation is generally a program that requires a lot of resource allocation and sufficient consideration in the organization. It calls for a proper innovation culture within the organization in order to effectively succeed (Porter, 2008). Most organizations fail in their innovation strategies because they normally expect to realize many returns from little allocation. In other cases, the size and resources of the organization cannot just enable them to implement any meaningful innovation strategy within the organization. There is often a disconnection between an organization’s goals and mission and its innovation process. For instance, an organization might aspire to realize a particular profit in the year at a given level of revenue. However, with innovation in mind, it might become difficult to realize the profit since innovation is normally an expensive affair in the organization whose cost cannot easily be foretold. Such a disconnect might therefore pose a challenge to the organization. In order to prevent this disconnect, it is important to set aside particular funds in the organization in order to address the issues of innovation without affecting other operational areas of the organization. This would be imperative to bridge the disconnection between the mission of the organization in terms of innovation and the operational aspects of the organization. It therefore boils down to the adoption of an effective innovation strategy in the organization that takes into account all the important aspects pertaining to the organization which include the resources, size of the organization and the position of the organization in the market. In this regard, it would be possible to develop or adopt an innovation strat egy that exactly specifies what the organization should pursue which should be in tandem with the ability of the organization. From the outset, it is important to institute a culture of innovation within the organi

Research proposal LBSRE2002 Research Methods for Business Literature review

Research proposal LBSRE2002 Research Methods for Business - Literature review Example This study will venture to assess the qualifications of three candidates for branch manager in a new office being set up in UK Company using the 360-degree feedback. Specifically, the following research questions will be addressed: 1. What is the profile of the three candidates in terms of the variables: gender, age, civil status, educational attainment, and experience as manager? 2. What is the profile of the raters in terms of the variables: gender, age, civil status, educational attainment, position, and years of service with the company? 3. What is the level of qualification of each candidate in each of the following behavioural areas of management: leading change, leading people, results-driven characteristics, business acumen, and building coalitions / communications? 4. Are there significant differences in the assessment of the manager qualifications in each area of the three candidates when the respondents are grouped according to each profile variable? 5. Is there a signific ant difference in the assessment of the manager qualifications among the three candidates? 6. Did the personal rating of each candidate significantly differ with the overall assessment of the raters? 7. What are the greatest strengths and weaknesses of each candidate? 2.0. Justification for Research Topic and Background (300) The primary justification for the research topic are the emerging issues in the UK company where management believes that they do not have sufficient evidence to come up with a sound judgment regarding the choice for the best candidate. To further confound their woes, a meeting among top level management and the middle level managers ended in a deadlock as to which candidate is best qualified to take the helm as manager of the new branch office being set up within a year’s time. A look at each candidate’s profile and track record in the company showed that the candidates’ qualifications are comparable. Top management believes that candidate s 1 or 3 would be an ideal choice, whereas the middle managers thought that candidate 2 will be the best choice. Top level management is, however, honest enough to admit that they based their nod for candidate 1 or 3 on gut feel. Middle managers confessed that they do not really know candidate 2 very well, but have experienced several altercations with both candidates 1 and 3 on separate instances. Hence, their choice for candidate 2 might have been somehow affected by bias against the other two. Being known to be a business student, one top level manager requested this researcher for some suggestions regarding the aforementioned issues. Without hesitation, and driven by the fact that the new branch office entail management development, 360-degree feedback was the first thing that crossed this researcher’s mind. The suggestion was well-taken and this researcher was asked to help in the conduct of the procedure. The researcher obliged to accept the challenge as an opportunity to put to use a concept learned in business school and to assist a friend who is immersed in the industry. This researcher lost no time in gathering preliminary information. It was learned that the three candidates currently hold middle manager positions in three departments with a comparable number of subordinates, but candidate three handles more employees in the supervisory positions. All three candidates usually deal with many of the company’

Globalization, Technology, and Marketing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Globalization, Technology, and Marketing - Essay Example A manager should be keen on finding out innovative technology according to the requirements of time. As companies are many, consumers will be offered quality goods at cheaper rates, so managers must try hard to retain their existing customers with high variety of want satisfying goods. Though the adoption of machineries and most modern technologies seems to be of much capital expenditure, they will compensate all these and hold good in the long run. In addition to products, the customers are to be provided with most valued services to win their loyalty. The ever changing business environment also demands it. As Saaksvuori and Immonen (2008, pp. 208-211) point out, since a technology based company has rather comprehensive technologic strategy, the management will be concerned about setting up a technological framework which will be distinct from other companies for production and manufacturing in the future. Once the production is completed, goods must reach the market to be distribut ed among the potential customers. A manager must also be prudent enough to seek new modes of transporting before the competitors bring their products to the market.

Quantitative method for finance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Quantitative method for finance - Essay Example 2. Probability models are models that become relevant when the outcome of interest is not continuous (such as wages per week or stock prices) but rather binary in nature such as, work/not work, survive/not survive etc. In such cases, the simplest possible methodology adoptable is that of the linear probability model or LPM. The response variable of interest, say Y takes the values 0 and 1 only and the approach is to model the expected value of this variable as a linear function of the independent predictor variables X: (ii) The variance of y will be dependent on x. That is, the model will suffer from conditional heteroscedasticity. This violates the homoscedasticity assumption of OLS. Thus, even though estimates will still be unbiased, the OLS estimator will not be efficient and the estimated standard error will be biased. (iii) The error terms are also binary. They can only take the values of or and thus cannot be normally distributed. Therefore, the assumption of normality of errors is also violated and this in turn would imply problems for typical inferential procedures. (iv) Finally, due to the binary nature of the dependent variable, diminishing returns cannot hold. Therefore, the functional form restricts the possibility of obtaining diminishing marginal impacts of the independent variable on the dependent variable. 3. (i) If the condition does not hold, then applying OLS is no longer optimum. The assumption implies the error covariances are zero. This is necessary for OLS estimates to have the â€Å"Best, Linear, Unbiased† properties. If the error covariances are not zero, then the assumption of the Gauss-Markov theorem are not satisfied and thus, the OLS estimates are no longer best, although they are still unbiased and consistent. The main problem arises in the context of inferences. 4. (i) If then the series is said to have a unit root. This implies that the series is non-stationary. This essentially translates to the mean and
